Thome's turn

Football and T.O. have ruled the day ... until now. Word from Los Angeles is that Phillies first baseman Jim Thome will be out for the remainder of the season.

Inquirer Phillies beat reporter Todd Zolecki reports that Thome is scheduled to have surgery next week in Alabama to repair a frayed tendon in his elbow.

Looks like Ryan Howard is in the big leagues to stay.

This is one of those bad things happening to good people. I think Jim Thome is a class guy, especially when you put him against a fool like Terrell Owens. I wish there were some other way to get Ryan Howard in the lineup, though it is definitely a good side effect of the Thome injury.
