Goodbye Corey

As you know by now, the Eagles gave DT Corey Simon his freedom, removing the franchise tag and allowing him to become an unrestricted free agent.

Instead of making $5.13 million for one season with the Eagles, Simon can go out and find a new team.

Is there a team out there that wants him at his inflated salary demands? Doubtful. Most teams have already spent their salary-cap cash.

The Eagles were unable to move Simon in a trade because no team wanted to pay Simon what he thought he was worth.

Simon, looking for a long-term deal, will be a loser in this scenario and the Eagles lose as well, getting nothing for him.

How does the Eagles organization say's this is for the team. When you don't even get a draft pick or some kind of consideration for a former pro bowl player this move doesn't make sense. Also, since none of the starting DT is better then Simon why are they giving him up freely. If he wants to play football it be in Eagle green or sit out for a year. Wrong moved.

To say the Eagles got nothing is not quite correct.

They got 5.1 million dollars in salary they won't have to pay and in cap room they can use elsewhere.

Simon will get a pretty good deal somewhere.

Both will be fine.

This was really the only logical move the Eagles could make. They tried to trade Simon, but none of the teams interested could meet his salary demands so the deals fell through. He's just another in a long line of players who have an inflated opinion of themselves and what they should be making. He'll get signed by someone, but not for the astronomical dollars he's going for.

Meanwhile, the birds get to use the $5M earmarked for him to either extend some of the younger guys, or perhaps bring in a veteran WR/RB via trade. Also they do not have to put up with another malcontent who would have come to the team bloated and out of shape.

...and he may wind up returning like Trot and Hugh after seeing the pastures are no greener than the Midnight Green shade here..
